‘Tis the season to show love to ourselves, others, and our homes. It’s that time of year when we express gratitude and love to those around us. The holiday season is a time to admire the past, appreciate today, and look forward to the future.
In this holiday post, we want to reflect on how we can all better care for ourselves, others, and our homes.
Caring for yourselves this holiday season
We purposefully put “self” first in this list because it’s that important. Just like a pilot tells you to put on your oxygen mask before helping others, you need to care for your health and well-being before you’re able to support others.
This busy holiday season, take some time out of your busy schedule to do something you enjoy. You may want to indulge in a new craft or hobby or go to the salon for a spa day. If you need quiet alone time, consider going for a calm walk along the Seawall or at the park. No matter how you spend it, taking care of yourself will help recharge your batteries.
Caring for others this holiday season
The holiday season is about giving, but that doesn’t necessarily mean presents. It could mean wishing a passerby Merry Christmas, holding a door open for the person behind you, or paying it forward in the Starbucks drive-through lineup.
Caring for others may include inviting family and friends to your home for holiday gatherings. It doesn’t have to be a big formal event, just inviting friends or neighbours over for a potluck afternoon tea (with holiday goodies too) is enough to harness the spirit of the season and catch up with those you haven’t seen in a while.
Caring for your home this holiday season
Your home deserves a little love this holiday season too. As you’re decorating for the holidays, take this opportunity to dust behind planters, vacuum under couches, and maybe light a holiday-scented candle to make the mood more festive.
When the holidays are over, it’s also an excellent opportunity to declutter. For example, do you really need to put all those knick-knacks back on the shelves after the garlands are taken down? Some also find their homes empty after the tree is put away in January, so that might be an excellent opportunity to change a room theme or accent colour. Maybe you can swap your snowman accent pillows for teal blue ones for the rest of the season?
From the entire Your Moving Concierge team and trusted network of vendors and partners, we wish you and your family a happy, healthy holiday season filled with much love!
