After the frigid weather on the West Coast this past winter, March has brought some much welcome “warmer” weather so far.
March is the perfect time to start cleaning your home and preparing it for Spring and Summer. Here are our top tips for Spring cleaning your home:
Get some fresh air
When was the last time you opened your windows and let the fresh air flow through your home? This past winter was so cold that it’s likely been a while since your home had a good fresh air breeze running through it. Now is a perfect time to open some windows during the day to get a cross breeze through your home…before allergy season kicks into full gear!
Declutter bit-by-bit
Spring cleaning is about more than just washing your floors and dusting your windowsills. It’s about decluttering things you no longer need or use. It’s good for your soul to declutter once and a while! A clean, tidy home creates more calm in your life.
There are a couple of ways you can do this:
- Marie Kondo style – if it no longer brings you joy, get rid of it.
- If you haven’t used it in 1-2 years, get rid of it.
Do your best not to throw unwanted items in the trash if you can avoid it. Look for opportunities to donate items to organizations that support less fortunate neighbours. Perhaps you can plan a yard sale or list items on Facebook Marketplace to find them new homes, and make a bit of cash. There are many “Buy Nothing” groups in communities where goods are exchanged free! Or, if your sister has been eyeing up your Elliptical machine and you haven’t used it in 3 years, maybe you could give it to her.
Don’t feel you have to declutter your whole house in a day. Pick one room or heck one drawer a week and see what you can pass on to new homes.
(Bonus tip: This is also an excellent reminder to finally throw out those socks with the holes in them too!)
Book an annual deep clean
Hire a local small business to give your home a good deep clean. They’re experts in their craft and can help you clean areas of your home you often forget or don’t notice (like wiping down light switches or cleaning your dressers or under the bed). Your Cleaning Concierge can help with this 🙂
Treat yourself to something new
Since you’ve now decluttered and cleaned your home for Spring, consider buying one new item to perk up your clean home. A cushion or throw blanket over the couch is a great, inexpensive way to change the look of a room. If you can’t buy something new right now, move accessories and decor around your home. Bring in brightly coloured throws, pillows, and accent pieces to brighten up your home for Spring.
